Short answer: NDA Company's loops are not royalty-free. They are free to download and free to use in your own beats, but a commercial release runs on a 50/50 publishing split. "Free" and "royalty-free" are two different things, and this page explains exactly how it works.
Free only means the download costs nothing. It says nothing about what you may do with the sound once your song earns money. Royalty-free means that after you obtain it you owe no further shares or royalties, but it almost always costs money up front (a subscription or purchase). A loop can be free without being royalty-free, and the other way around.
| Costs money? | Commercial use? | Licence | |
|---|---|---|---|
| NDA Company (free) | No | Yes, 50/50 split | Clear, one page |
| Royalty-free (e.g. Splice) | Subscription/buy | Yes, no split | Clear |
| Scattered free kits | No | Unclear | Often none |
Allowed: flip, chop, pitch, layer and use the loops in your beats; post those beats on YouTube/Instagram; release a song as long as the 50/50 publishing split is honoured. Not allowed: re-sell the loops unchanged as your own sample pack or pass them off as your own loops.
Royalty-free costs up front. The 50/50 split flips that: you never pay anything in advance and get curated, hand-played loops for free. NDA only shares in the upside when your track actually earns. For most producers that is fairer than a monthly subscription that keeps charging even when nothing is coming out.
Every loop streams and downloads as mp3 right now, no login. A free account adds unlimited downloads and a new drop every week by mail. No card, no password, just a magic link.
